About pbi2md

pbi2md is built for people who care about clarity, reproducibility, and getting real work done. It turns Power BI models into clean, readable Markdown so teams can document faster, collaborate better, and avoid the usual "tribal knowledge" traps that slow down BI projects.

About Me

I'm Brian, the solo founder behind Pineysoft and the creator of pbi2md. I've spent years working across Power BI, SQL, TMDL, Docker, and the messy reality of enterprise data workflows. Over time, I kept running into the same problem: documentation was always the bottleneck. It was slow, inconsistent, and usually out of date the moment it was written.

So I built the tool I wished existed.

Why pbi2md Exists

Power BI is powerful, but documenting models isn't.

Teams rely on screenshots, copy‑paste, or manual exports that don't scale. Analysts lose time. Developers lose context. Managers lose visibility.

Markdown solves this — it's portable, version‑controlled, and works everywhere.

pbi2md bridges the gap by generating Markdown directly from your PBIP project, giving you documentation that's:

  • Deterministic — the same input always produces the same result
  • Repeatable — run it again, get the same output
  • Easy to diff — see exactly what changed between versions
  • Easy to automate — fits into your CI/CD pipeline
  • Easy for anyone to understand — clean, readable Markdown

No fluff. No magic. Just clean output you can trust.

How I Build

pbi2md reflects the way I work:

  • Minimal UI, maximum clarity — no bloat, no distractions.
  • Deterministic output — the same input always produces the same result.
  • Root‑cause thinking — if something breaks, you should be able to understand why.
  • Real‑world constraints first — built for analysts and developers who don't have time for theory.
  • Automation‑friendly — because documentation should be part of your workflow, not a separate chore.

I run Pineysoft as a Micro SaaS because it lets me stay close to the product, close to customers, and focused on solving real problems instead of chasing scale for its own sake.

My Commitment

pbi2md is actively maintained and continuously improving.

I use it myself, I listen to feedback, and I ship updates with purpose — not noise.

If you rely on Power BI and want documentation that's fast, accurate, and repeatable, pbi2md is built for you.
